Mar del Plata has an important fashion and textile industry. In 2017, some companies joined the university and the local government to apply to a national program (Program of Support for Competitiveness of Conglomerates, PACC in Spanish) which intended to support local clusters. Its aim was to enlarge and strengthen communication, commerce and Full Mattress activities related to the textile and clothing manufacture sector. In this context, the Sustainable Design Research Group (GIDSu in Spanish), submitted a project to certify sustainable production in the local industry. The cluster -especially the Textile Association- welcomed the project, which finally took the name of Sustainable Design Certification (CeDiS).

Currently, GIDSu is testing certification protocols for fashion manufac-turers.This article aimed to analyze the situation of PACC in terms of relevant groups, interpretations, and their relationships. It also examined the role of designers in the CeDiS development using concepts such as design for development, design management, innovation and sustainability, from a local point of view. The work is approa-ched from the perspective of design for development, which explains the community need to increase competiti-veness in the textile-manufacturing field. From this perception, the designer captures and projects a sustainable design certification.

Thus, the researcher-designer has a double role, both as developer of knowledge and as project manager. The article concluded that Catheter and Bag Kits and Trays CeDiS is an innovative product, first because the industrial commu-nity supports the project and second, because researchers re-design current certifications to the local context.
